PD-0083: Identification of Standards

This decision represents a long-term technical decision based on an OD, and may not be the same as the final results of the source OD. With respect to published criteria documentation and scheme documents, it provides suggested guidance on evaluation direction, but is not authoritative. Authoritative decisions are provided through the published criteria documents and published scheme and international interpretations thereof. With respect to published PPs, PDs are authoritative corrections to the PP, based on input from the PP author (if available), that are in force until the publication of the next revision of that PP.

Issue

I-0427 is ambiguous. The text it adds to the CEM restricts the compliance approaches to either the evaluation lab or an external third-party. However, the infomative text it adds to the annex and the support permit an additional compliance approach: developer claims. Which approaches are correct?

Resolution

Developer claims that a product meets a particular standard are not sufficient. As the Interpretation states: "Claims about use of a standard must be unambiguous with respect to the source of a metric and the meaning of compliance. If a compliance claim is made, the ST author must provide an indication of how compliance is to be determined."

The material added to the CEM should be considered correct. The informative material added to the CC will be corrected in a future interpretation or in the CCIMB's new ASE supplement.

Support

The intent of the interpretation was to provide the customer with a solid basis for making decisions. Rather than just accepting vendor claims at face value; they must be verified.
