PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Marconi's SA-400 Security Appliance is an IP/ATM Firewall hardware device designed to protect against intrusion at OC-12c line speeds. Because ATM connections are not terminated within the SA-400, its hardware-based filters provide this protection with a minimum amount of latency. Since no segmentation and reassembly is required once a flow is identified, traffic is processed at line rate. By allowing only the desired IP and ATM traffic to enter the network, the SA-400 prevents servers and other network equipment from becoming bogged down processing useless or unwanted data.

The SA-400 filtering policy is specified by the administrator and can be used to inspect and protect the following protocols and encapsulations: UDP, TCP, ICMP, LANE, RFC1483, CLIP, MPOA, AAL1, and AAL5 (with or without IP traffic encapsulation).

The SA-400 auditing/logging functions record TSF security relevant events on its local hard drive, including System Logs, Web Interface Logs, Connections Logs, Monitor Log and Disallowed Connections Log.

SECURITY EVALUATION SUMMARY

The evaluation was performed under the Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS). The purpose of the evaluation was to demonstrate that the Marconi SA-400 Firewall meets the EAL2 security assurance requirements according to the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation, Version 2.1 and Part 2 of the Common Methodology for Information Technology Security Evaluation, Version 1.0. Validators on behalf of the CCEVS Validation Body monitored the evaluation carried out by COACT, Inc. CAFE Lab. The evaluation was completed on July 7, 2004. The results of the Marconi SA-400 Firewall evaluation can be found in Marconi SA-400 Firewall Validation Report prepared by the CCEVS Validation Team.
